Brugge, Belgium Pictures
Friday August 15, 2003
Bruges, or Brugge in Flemish, is such a picturesque city, it's hard to stop taking pictures. Brugge offers the visitor a well-preserved medieval townscape, despite some bombing during WWII and the destruction of the old city wall in the middle of the 19th century due to the demands of auto traffic. The history of Bruges began with a Gallic-Roman settlement on the site of the city over 2000 years ago. There have been ups and downs over the years, especially when the river Zwin silted up the in 15th century, but industry and tourism is helping Bruges to regain its importance.
