The "Best" of Europe by the Numbers

Friday January 16, 2004
If you're one of those people who plans your European vacation around the popularity of destinations, some new numbers have arrived: Europe's Top City Breaks. Yep, Europe's most popular cities in 2002 (the latest figures, evidently), with the number of foreign visitors in millions in parenthesis, are:

London (11.6) Pictures, links
Paris (9) Pictures, Map
Amsterdam (5) Links
Rome (3.9) Map, Pictures
Dublin (3.5) links

A majority of London's foreign visitors were from the US--2.5 million of us visited in 2002. London and Paris are competitors for the 2012 Olympics as well, so you might pencil that into your vacation calendar if you're interested.
