A Tasty Reason To Travel: Food Festivals

Wednesday August 25, 2004
I have to tell you, I'm one of those people who travels to Europe to eat. Yeah, the museums are fine, and the medieval villages alluring, but set a plate of Tagliatelle ai Funghi in front of me at the Sagra del Fungo Porcino and I'm in my own little heaven. And since autumn is coming up, and the wine harvest is starting and the truffle hunters polishing their boots, this is a great time to plan a fall vacation.

But sometimes, with my camera, I feel like I'm becoming some sort of food anthropologist. Traditional ways of food preparation are fading fast, and I find myself more interested than ever in recording the process. So, when I found myself in Tuscany's Lunigiana region in front of some women making Torta di Verdure the old-fashioned way, I just had to stick my camera in there and record the whole deal. See Making Torta di Verdure in Five Easy Steps.
