Winter Travel in Switzerland - Your Own Pod in the Alps

Tuesday November 30, 2004
Imagine yourself high in the Alps--5,380 feet to be exact. Before you stands your pod, a high-tech tent swathed in triple-insulated cotton wrapped on a frame that'll withstand "a snowfall of 45 lbs/sq ft with winds of up to 130 mph, or up to 195 mph winds without snow." A wood burning stove keeps the temperature inside at a balmy 20 degrees C. Each pod offers a private terrace featuring uninterrupted views of the Alpine landscape.

And the only way to get there is to walk or ski.

Make no mistake, this is a luxury deal. Dinner is three courses, while lunch is an elegant picnic packed for you so you can ski to your hearts content. Intrigued? The place is called Whitepod. Sean Newsom gives it a try in: They came from outer Switzerland
