Ancient Roman Mosaic Uncovered

Friday January 28, 2005
Rome is an amazing layercake frosted with the artifacts of daily life and ambition. Many bloggers, including Mirabilis.ca, covered Rome's recent uncovering, an intact mosaic featuring naked Romans trampling wine grapes and entertained by a flute player.

Rome is an amazing city. If you haven't had enough of the ancient ruins in the city itself, you can take the subway to Ostia Antica to see a smaller town with amazingly intact ruins. A longer train ride gets you to ancient Pompeii, a playground for rich Romans until Vesuvius erupted and encapsulated it so that archaeologists could see the goings on in a single moment after the terrible calamity. Curious time travelers may wish to peruse the resources in Archaeology in Italy.

Ah, wouldn’t everyone with a big suitcase want to know how to remove a bit of an ancient mosaic without ruining it?
