Friday Fishwrap: Travel Notes from All Over

Friday February 18, 2005
Once, many years ago, I tried to carry a laptop and cameras with me to Europe. Not worth it. But today, with wifi access, 4 pound laptops, and light digital SLRs, I bring the lot. Lots of other equally insane folks must shoulder this same load on their vacations, because there are a plethora of backpacks on the market designed to protect both photo equipment and notebook computers at the same time. Need one? I've made a list of 7 Top Photo and Notebook Backpacks.

In other Europe Travel news: "Air passengers have won new rights for compensation for overbooked, delayed or cancelled flights as European laws came into effect yesterday amid protests from airlines." From the Belfast Telegraph. As a recent victim of a canceled Meridiana flight, I give this move a big thumbs up.

Take your RV with you to Europe? Who'd even think about it? Well, someone has. And it worked out. Larry West of Senior Travel reports.

And finally, Budget Travel's Mark Kahler tells us of the Unknown Germany.
