The peninsula that juts into the sea north of Amsterdam is called Noord-Holland. This compact area has all the things a traveller would expect from a Holland sojourn: windmills, wooden shoes, dikes, and a brooding polder landscape. But there's more: a living museum where people work and live as they did in the 17th and 18th centuries, a resort town with auto racing, and the prospect of dune-riding your rented bike up the peninsula.
