Germany's Oldest City

Monday June 20, 2005
Three hours from Strasbourg, France is Trier, Germany's oldest city. The evidence for Roman occupation is everywhere, from the Porta Nigra, a massive Roman gate and fortification, to the Amphitheater that seated 20,000, and which is now being prepared for the performing arts season. I've put together some pictures of the Roman places and how they relate to the modern landscape--and some information on how you can end your tour of the antiquities with a top-notch meal created from recipes written by Roman cooking wiz Apicus. See Trier Pictures - Roman and Modern Trier.
