Intelligent Design for Travel or the Evolution of Wasteful Packaging?

Tuesday August 23, 2005
Minimus. Cool name for a place that sells tiny packages of fairly useful stuff, mostly for travel. On the Minimus site you'll find "individual sizes" of things you usually see in the large, economy size--like those little, easily unopenable tubes full of surprisingly daft combinations of ingredients the airlines give you to dribble over your salad. I'm thinking about the "salad dressing" made largely of liquid sugar that I got on my last flight, and not fondly.

Minimus gives you choices. The web site actually allows those with discriminating taste to order minuscule packages of Olive Oil as a replacement, and the half-ounce pack won't even make a dent in your carry-on. That can't be a bad thing.

You can also get Kosher foods. The ingredients of the packets are clearly listed so you know how much guar gum you're consuming. But foods are only a small part of the inventory. You can order stuff like poison ivy wipes (for you adventurers) and individual condoms (for that quickie trip). And you can even get the cute 1/8 oz. bottle of Tabasco that soldiers in the field are given to make the food almost palatable. Minimus even has a blog. Enjoy!
