Michelangelo and Mozart in Haarlem

Thursday September 1, 2005
From Teylers Museum in Haarlem: "In collaboration with the British Museum in London and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Teylers Museum will present ninety drawings by Michelangelo from 6 October 2005 to 8 January 2006....Pride of place will go to the Sistine Chapel in Rome, with its famous frescos and with the mural of the Last Judgement. Over twenty studies for these works will be shown, including the celebrated hand of God and a number of human figures, among them the heroic male nudes that are a leitmotif in Michelangelo’s oeuvre. The drawings will provide visitors with the closest possible insight into the development of Michelangelo’s initial ideas for these masterpieces."

Haarlem is a short train or bus ride from Amsterdam. It's a great city to visit, or even to stay in while you take day trips to Lieden, Amsterdam, or other places in Noord Holland. Haarlem has a rather unique church called St. Bavo's Church, with a wonderful Christian Muller organ built between 1735 and 1738 and played by Handel and Mozart, to name a few. Let me take you on a short tour of the interior of Saint Bavo Church - Haarlem. There are other surprises in store!
