Travel Europe Virtually

Friday September 23, 2005
Is there too much information on the web to make travel exciting any more? I mean, a click of the mouse is all it takes to travel virtually, to see webcams pointed at tourist traps, view pictures, restaurant menus, read reviews. All that's left is smell and human interaction. Not that there's anything wrong with either--as long as the smell is halfway pleasant.

Take Arounder. After you select a city you get access to a customizable map, music, and a full screen virtual reality tour of many of the top sites. Milano gives you a very nice tour of Basilica de San Lorenzo, for example, or a look at Leonardo's Last Supper you can zoom in to. Seeing it all online is admitedly not as good as standing there, gawking at the art in awe--but then again, you can do it for free in your underwear without offending the guards.

And yes, we here at Europe for Visitors have joined the audio/video fray. Just released is a video about Riding the Rails in Europe. See our Audio/Video page for more.
