Terrorists, Nuns, and Mistaken Identity: Managing No-Fly Lists

Monday September 26, 2005
Do you always get intensive screening at airports? More than other folks? Be aware that there are two Transportation Security Agency (TSA) watch lists, the well-known no-fly list and the lesser known "selectee list." Being on the selectee list means your boarding pass will be marked with "SSSS" and you'll get the full brunt of personal and bagage screening, according to a Wired News report, link via Gaddling.

If you are on either of these lists erroniously, you can ask TSA to clear you. See: TSA Watch Lists Clearance Procedures.

How many people have asked so far to have their names cleared? 26,000. And it's no wonder, given that Sister Glann Anne McPhee was a victim of the no fly list for nine months. The match? The name McPhee was being used as an alias by an Afghani man--no first name was given, according to her family. (Nun Terrorized by Terror Watch)
