Northern Spain, Southern France

Tuesday February 21, 2006
One of my favorite places in Europe is right at the intersection of Spain and France. In Spain, Asturias and Cantabria are great places to visit during the summer, when other regions are sweltering. I was reminded of a pleasant visit there by an email from Lisa & Mike Stuart, who run a guesthouse in the Picos de Europa. Lisa and Mike offer guided ski touring and walking holidays to guests.

Right across the Pyrenees in the traditional mountain village of Bareges, France is Mountainbug, a bed and breakfast run by long distance hikers Robert Mason and Emma Todd, who live permanently in the village. Emma has walked across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean (500miles) in 2002 on the long distance walk - the GR10. She's promised us an article on one of her favorite walks in the area. Stay tuned.
