Pavia,
in Italy, is known as the city of 100 towers. There are just a few left
now, including the stub of one that fell in 1989. A cluster of some of
them are shown over there to the left. You can get some great food in Pavia, and the new non-smoking regulations make eating a bit nicer for us non-smokers. Still, my hotel has a rather interesting view of the law. The writing on the wall notes that each room is fitted with a smoke detector, so you must not smoke--but if have to, you are advised to open a window.
