Food Allergies? Sensitivity? Travel Worry Free!

Monday March 6, 2006
Every cuisine has its quirks, and every waiter his desire to poo-poo your dietary restrictions and food allergies, expecially when a lack of language skills makes a muck of the whole deal. I've heard of a clever solution from the nice folks over at SlowTalk. It's called Select Wisely, the makers of Food Translation cards for "food allergies, gluten-free, vegetarian and lactose intolerance."

So you're going to Italy and you're allergic to onions. You just order a laminated card that says in English and Italian that you don't want to see any onions in your food or else--and they print it so you can show your waiter. Well, maybe without the "or else" part, but still...

The Select Wisely site has other advice for those traveling with food allergies and preferences as well, so check it out, even if you're just a finicky eater.
