Explore Basel, Switzerland
Basel,
Switzerland is situated at the intersection of Germany, France and Switzerland along
the Rhine river. It's one of my favorite places in Switzerland, in part because
of the fine food you can get at the atmospheric Guildhall restaurants, many
preserved from the 12th century. See our Profile of Basel, Switzerland in our
Basel Travel
Guide.
The picture on the left is of Tinguely Fountain. In 1977 Jean Tinguely placed kinetic sculptures in an enormous pool of water where the stage of the old Town Theatre once stood. The fountain has become the symbolic centerpiece of Basel, and provides amusement for all.

Hi,
I am not the Basel Travel Bureau, and do not send out maps and info–you’ll find that in the links, articles you can print out yourself. It’s also not a good idea to leave your address in a public space on a website.
Thanks,
james
Basel must be the unfriendliest place I have ever visited. The people are arrogant, and don’t seem to have the first idea how to treat visitors.
My advice: DON’T VISIT!
I thought that maybe due to the fact that they are neutral when it comes to wars etc, that they would be friendly and smart. No, they are just insular and arrogant.
One of the worst, if not THE worst places I have ever visited. The prices are also ridiculous, and unless you have to pass through, don’t bother ever visiting the place.
It’s a ****hole!
