Many of us are fascinated by the medieval period; we know just enough about it
through the architecture and town planning we see on our vacations to
know we like it. In fact, I've just returned from a visit
to Modena, where you can still see some pretty nice examples of
medieval town planning in the historic center. Italy holds many summer festivals that celebrate arts and athletic skills that began in the medieval, and at a recent one in Fivizzano, I took pictures of the people in medieval garb with an eye toward eliminating the modern, so that you'd get the full effect of envisioning yourself eye to eye with medieval characters. See our Medieval Costume Gallery for the full set.
