Culinary Lisbon for the Independent Traveler

Those of you who've read this blog know that I like good food--and I prefer renting vacation houses when I go on vacation. And I know there's a growing interest in cooking; there seems no end to the list of cooking schools for travelers, but what if you want a small sample of cooking in a strange land?

The folks at Visiting Portugal have a novel idea. Rent a home in Lisbon's Historic Preservation District and you can also add on a one-time Lisbon cooking class that will include a trip to the market where they'll show you how to buy the best food for your dinner. You should be able to get the one gourmet meal/cooking class and 3 nights stay at a luxurious private apartment for less than $1,000 for up to 3 people.

Sounds like a great idea to me, but if you'd rather go out, they offer a nice Google map of their Favorite Lisbon Eateries.
