Automotive Travel in Germany
Thursday July 31, 2008
Despite the ever rising cost of fuel, the automotive world--at least in Germany--is in good shape for your visit. First off, the BMW Museum in Munich reopened in June after four years of reshaping the place. Since April, the Prototyp Museum in Hamburg has been teaching travelers about the history of race car driving with 50 historic racers spread out over three floors. I love the picture on the Prototyp home page.
Of course, when you're done, you'll probably feel like flogging the old rental car for a few laps around Nurburgring.

The Auto & Technik Museum in Sinsheim has a huge collection of gleaming red Ferraris - I counted 14 when I was there. We’ve also visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart - another great place!
My time in the army in 1954/5 included the Mercedes factory too. Even the factory tour which included one of the forge shops that upset steel for special bolts. It included with the showroom filled with Gull Wings. If only I had the $4000 to buy one… My paid for VW was all that I had
money for in those days with my PFC pay. Yes, I saw lots more over there including Vienna and Innsbruck. The car came home with me and was my transport in collage where the GI bill and reserve duty got me though 4 years with zero debt at the end. I still want to take another trip to see the latest and best of auto production. Now my VW is a Prius that only sips fuel. Our youngest son has a VW diesel which is another great car and gets about same fuel mileagee as our hybrid.
