Fall Color Comes to the Vineyards of Barolo
We've spent a beautiful fall day walking the vineyards of Barolo in the historic Langhe district of Piemonte. Some vines are showing intense fall colors, and many grapes still need to be picked.
We stayed in the amazing little village of Castiglione Falletto. Amazing since it is host to a top notch restaurant called Le Torri and a very well run hotel called Albergo Le Torri. There's also a good trattoria where we've had a great lunch and a bar with a terrace overlooking the vineyards toward the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba. Castiglione Falletto also has it's own castle; that's the main tower you see near the top of the little picture on the left.
Wine tasting in Barolo is usually done at the local Cantina Comunale, a place most towns involved in the production of wine set up for sales and tasting. Unlike the Napa Valley, most of the small wineries of Piemonte aren't set up to entertain visitors with tasting and tours, especially at the busy harvest time.
So, I'll just tell you that Castiglione Falletto has an excellent Cantina Comunale, and you even can find help in English there.
