The Arab Baths of Spain

Thursday January 1, 2009

Wikipedia pronounces, "As societies advance, public baths often disappear as private washing stations become possible..." One wonders if the word "advance" is being misused here. Seldom do you hear of tourists exiting from a public bath, perhaps one of Spain's baņos arabes, mumbling, "gee, what an awful and primitive experience!"

The web is a good place to get a personal account of people's experiences with public baths. In The Arab Baths of Granada, bathers exclaim:

"The flickering flashlight finished our time in the hammans but we left our newfound paradise of warmth and tranquility filled with a spiritual sense of ahhhhhhhh."

Click the link above to get a personal view of using an Arab Bath from a tourist perspective. If you come back thinking, "gee, if that's primative, then give me some!" check out Damian Corrigan's list of Thermal Baths in Spain that you can visit. If you want more tourist information on Granada, herd your mouse over to Granada Tourist Information.
