A great many towns and villages in Tuscany are inundated with water at the moment. What you see in the picture is the local bridge, about 5 minutes from our house, completely broken and a huge section of roadway missing. Electricity and gas lines ran under the bridge, so locals don't have either right now.
The Arno in Florence is nearing the tops of the arches on the bridges. The Maremma of southern Tuscany has been very hard hit. Marina di Massa has been under water as well. But the rain in Tuscany has mostly ended, and we hope things return to normal soon.
The water that had covered Venice is subsiding after being recorded as the 6th highest Acqua Alta on record. The water was about 5 feet above normal and covered nearly 70% of Venice at its peak.
