Christmas in Denmark

By November 24, 2012

Follow me on:

Christmas markets. You just walk around and buy stuff. Why not add another dimension? Let's say: time. How did Christmas look in 1974 Denmark? Or 1723?

You know where you can experience all this? Den Gamle By, Denmark's celebrated open air ethnographic, er, "urban history and culture" museum in Aarhus. Den Gamle By is a town. You might encounter geese roaming the streets. The town has neighborhoods, each stuck in time. You can experience 1800s rural Denmark, then walk over to 1974 Denmark and look in the store windows at the Tandberg open reel tape recorder you coveted back then, when you and everyone else had hair--lots of it.

Christmas is celebrated in Den Gamle By from November 17th until December 30th, 2012. For more, see: Christmas in Den Gamle By.

Den Gamle By is one of the top attractions in Aarhus.
