According to Fodors, the Azores Islands is one of the "25 places to go in 2013" and why not? It's off the beaten track, it's got some nice beaches, some show-off whales, lots of pretty innovative and inexpensive lodging--not to mention a springtime full of flowers (but autumn isn't so bad either, that's a stroller chest-high in flowers in October shown in the picture above).
And you may be amazed at the climate! The temperature hardly varies over the year. As I write this on the 26th of December, it's 61 °F at 8pm in Horta--and the summer average high doesn't historically exceed about 76 °F!
