There's a lot of tweaking in the things we travelers use most these days. Take my go-to bag company, Tom Bihn. By finding new fabrics that are light and strong, they've managed to lighten up our two favorite bags by about 20% or so. The Tri-Star we've reviewed (click the link) is our technology bag, which each trip seems to gain weight until we start to worry about reaching the carry-on limits. It's now about 9 ounces lighter when ordered with DyneemaŽ/420d nylon ripstop. We're getting our hands on one soon. By carrying a Nexus 7 instead of an iPad 1 in the Tri-Star, we'll save a little more weight. Every bit counts.
And speaking of saving, how 'bout them gas prices? Does the price of $8.52 per gallon of Diesel in Italy put you off a driving trip of Europe? Let me tell you about a discovery we've made while preparing to lease a car for this spring's trip. The Clio 4's diesel version is said to get around 69 miles to the gallon! It still develops an impressive 90 hp as well. We'll get to test the car starting in March.
We've just updated our Gas Prices in Europe page so that you can see the current prices of fuel (gas and diesel) with and without taxes so you can compare with the price of fuel in the US.
