Have a Good Year: Peter Mayle's Luberon Explained by the Wood Family
I don't know about you, but I like films adapted from Peter Mayle's books. They focus a spotlight on the very things informed travelers crave: a beautiful and exotic landscape, finely crafted food, and the interactions of people with different world views and speaking a different language.
So, you should see "A Good Year" if you like the Provence region of France. But if the area really astounds and amazes you, you can get the Woods to show you around the towns where filming took place, through small group tours they call The Luberon Experience. Among the highlights: you'll visit Bonnieux, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful villages in France, where the Woods have spent a lot of time over the years--and they'll introduce you to Château la Canorgue, a winery outside Bonnieux that was the filming location for the vineyard featured in "A Good Year."
It must be odd, though, seeing a movie representing people you know seen through the eyes of a writer filtered through the eyes of a director and then modified by the skills and prejudices of an actor. The Woods are anxious to see the movie and sort this all out--and so am I.
