Where Did the Ancient Romans Go to Relax?

Monday June 30, 2008
One of the things I like about staying in Italy is the passion Italians have for getting away and enjoying life. One might be tempted to say, "it was always like that."

You see, ProTraveller has selected 7 Fascinating Places Where Ancient People Vacationed. Five of the seven are in Italy--and all seven were used by Romans in times past.

Many had thermal springs and were spas in antiquity, but essentially they're the same kinds of places folks go today--places like Montecatini Terme and other Spa Resorts in Italy.

So check out the list. All seven are interesting places to visit. Ostia Antica is one of my favorites for two reasons: not many folks go there, even in summer, and it's not primarily a spa town, so you get to see how "normal" folks lived.
