Like him, I'm always thinking...usually of food

He's quite horrible with language but he tries

Yeah, I speak Italian like a learning impared three-year-old--even after four years of study, including a semester at l'Università per Stranieri in Perugia (that's the University for Foreigners--bet you thought it was for "strange folks" when you read it, eh?). In any case, I try.

Tip: You'll have an easier and more enjoyable time of it if you take time to learn the words for "good morning", "good evening", "hello", "thanks", "sorry", and especially "where's the bathroom" in the language of the countries in which you're traveling. People will have more respect for you. Trust me on this. And we can help: Consult Foreign Languages for the Tourist. The second page tells of my stint at Language school.

Another Tip: Just so I can visit restaurants that don't have pictures of food on them and not sound like an idiot, I make a stop at the local market first thing and look at all the stuff I like to eat and take note of the labels. I may not know verbs, but I always get close with the food words.

And last, he tells you about all the weird stuff he'll put in his mouth just because it's available locally

I like to at least try the local chow. I'm not the kinda guy who will insist that you order Sardinian maggot cheese when you go, but I will have it myself, thank you very much. You know how many people wanna hear stories about the formaggio con vermini you had on the Island? Well, I don't know either but I love telling the story anyway.

So I hope you'll take a little look around the site and enjoy the articles. If there's something you'd like to see featured, why not drop me a note?
