There are many ways to get from Venice's Marco Polo Airport to the city of Venice.
Public Transortation
ATVO Fly Bus - The Fly bus will take you to Venice (Piazzale Roma) and other Veneto destinations. A bus is also available to Mestre. Check below for an ACTV Travelcard
City Bus number 5 takes you to Venice, number 15 to Mestre. An inexpensive option, but you probably don't want to use it when you have a lot of luggage. Like most local buses in Italy, buy a ticket at a tabacchi (tobacco store) or newsstand. There is one at the airport.
Shared Airport Transfer Services
Alilaguna offers many connections via boat between Venice and the Airport. (map of route).
Shared transfer on a water taxi for a minimum of two people is possible at a reasonable cost from Venicelink. It will take you right to your hotel (and everyone else's hotel).

Discount Transportation and Services Cards - The Venice Connected Card and ACTV Travelcard
A Venice Connected card offers a card tailored to your expected uses of public transportation, museums, wifi access, public toilets and car parking based on the season of your visit. You can find out all about the Venice Connected card here. You can save if you buy the car online using the link.
ACTV offers Travelcards good for up to seven days. They allow unlimited travel and can be used on all the services - both waterborne (except those of route Alilaguna, Clodia, Fusina) and on land - that provide urban services within the municipality ("Comune") of Venice (land services on the Lido and in Mestre). This is the pass to buy if you're only interested in a transportation only pass.
