Venice - Doges Palace
Scala d'Oro. It's difficult to capture the real oppulance of this simple staircase, but if you want to capture it free of bermuda shorts and whining children it's best to buy a ticket the night before and get to the Doges Palace early--you'll get in before they start selling tickets in the morning, and it's quite peaceful for that half hour or so.
