Marseille Provence Airport
Planning Your Provence Travel Starting from the Airport
Marseille Provence Airport or Aéroport de Marseille Provence is a major regional hub for visitors to the Provence-Alps Côte d'Azur area is located in the French town of Marignane, 27 kilometers northwest of Marseille, as show on the map below. In 2012 the airport served 8.3 million flyers.
As Marseille will be the Capital of Culture in 2013, the airport will become very important for visitors wanting to take advantage of the many cultural events in France's second largest city in 2013.
The map below shows the airport in relation to the city of Marseille. Zoom out to get the bigger picture; Salon-de-Provence is northwest of the airport, a ten minute drive.
Airport Hotel Advice
Pullman Marseille is marked on the map, east of the airport itself. It's the hotel we stayed in, located near a cluster of Airport hotels including the Hotel Ibis Marseille Aéroport - Marignane and the Holiday Inn Express. If you're going to Marseille, of course, you'll want to stay there. But if you're waiting for an early morning flight, a stay at the airport isn't a bad idea. If you like wetlands and are a stroller, the area has started to be developed for birdwatching--strolling the trails makes a pleasant few hours when you're stuck at the airport.
