Ramada City Center Amsterdam

About.com Rating four out of Five

By James Martin, About.com

The Bottom Line

Looking for a reasonably priced, full service hotel in Amsterdam? The Centrally located Ramada City Center Amsterdam just might fit the bill. While the standard rooms aren't huge, they have been recently renovated and are cleverly designed to make maximum use of the space, with ample shelves and nooks in which to keep your stuff.

Pros

  • Centrally located near Dam Square and the central station
  • Clean, compact but well-designed rooms
  • Often reasonably innexpensive

Cons

  • Rooms aren't large
  • No air conditioning - hardly a problem in Amsterdam

Description

  • Centrally located hotel in the heart of Amsterdam between the train station and Dam Square.
  • Address: Nieuwe Zijdsvoorburgwal 50, Amsterdam. Tram and bus lines in front of the hotel.
  • The two star Ramada does not have a restaurant, but has a cafe for coffee and snacks.

Guide Review - Ramada City Center Amsterdam

Recently remodeled, this relatively modern hotel wasn't a bad place to stay compared to the creakier old places, especially at web discount prices. The location is very central to tourist services and the central train station, the staff friendly and helpful, and there was wireless in the public areas (not in the rooms), available at a price. There is also a single computer to use in the lobby.

Breakfast is served in the room that's a cafe in the daytime. A buffet breakfast will set you back about 10 Euros, but it comes with hot and cold foods, and as many trips to the espresso machine as your bladder can handle.

Each floor has a room where you can iron your pants while the rest of the hotel gets to look on via the big, picture window open onto the hallway. Does anyone iron anymore? The ice machine is here as well.

There's a small safe in each room. The bathrooms are small, with compact tub and shower. The sink is located right outside the bathrooms, an arrangement I prefer, especially when I'm not traveling alone.

All in all, the hotel is quiet, centrally located, and fine for most travel. It might lack the charm of older places, but you'll get a good night's sleep here.
