Marine archaeologist Franck Goddio has spent 10 years doing underwater excavations of lost Egyptian cities dating from the 7th century BC to the 8th century AD off the coast of the modern city of Alexandria and in the Bay of Aboukir. Those finds will be exhibited in Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin from May 13 to September 4, 2006.
Below are pictures of some of Goddio's spectacular finds over the years, including a black granite state, believed to represent the Ptolemaic queen Arsinoe II, in a diaphanous gown, all rendered in black granite, a spectacular achievement.
