Like Venice, Chioggia has canals, bridges, and narrow alleyways to explore. But if Chioggia is a miniature Venice, then it is quite a tiny gem. Ghioggia has a single main canal and a wide main street lined with cafes and restaurants, mostly offering specialties from the sea. And why not? Chioggia has one of Italy's finest fish markets right on the Vena canal.
You can take the boat to Venice from Chioggia, but pay attention and get a direct one--the one that requires you to take a boat, then bus, then ferry, then bus, then boat is an exhausting way to travel. Besides, you'll want to be in Venice when the tourists go home and you can explore properly. Chioggia should be thought of as a separate destination; one that is worth at best a day or two.
