Evora, a walled city in Portugal's Alentejo region, was known by the Romans as Liberalitas Julia, and vestiges from this period, including the imperial temple (Diana's temple), still remain for tourist's to gawk at.
Evora is worth two to three days to visit. Due to the relative innexpensive nature of a visit, it's a good place to splurge on a Posada (lodging in a castle or country estate) and maybe a ride around Evora on a carriage, which is exactly the way we did it.
