The Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery is spread over 130 undulating acres in the northeast of France near the Belgian border. Buried here are the largest number of American Dead in Europe, almost 15,000. Most were victims of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in World War I.

The rows of headstones set with military precision rise from a central fountain in a now idyllic spot near the Meuse river. I hope the pictures will give you a sense of the place. Visiting information is at the end of the slide show.
