Regensburg is quite compact, so you'll have little trouble walking in the old section of town (the altstadt). Regensburg is a good shopping town.
The Pope's Regensburg
Pope Benedict's brother was bandmaster in the Regensburg Cathedral and still lives in Regensburg. Pope Benedict was Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Regensburg from 1969-1977, and served as Vice President of the university from 1976-1977.
Top Attractions in Regensburg
Reichstagsmuseum, located within the picture-book half-timbered complex of the Old Town Hall. The first German parliament building, seat of the "immerwährender Reichstag." Head down to the dungeons and see one of German's few remaining medieval torture chambers. You'll also find a Tourist Information Center here at Rathausplatz 3. Pick up a map and check out the walking tours. They'll also help you find lodging, or they'll send brochures.
St. Peter's Cathedral (Dom St. Peter), Bavaria's most important gothic building and home to the famous Regensburger Domspatzen, or "Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows," a church choir led for many years by Georg Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI's brother.
