Pope Benedict XVI's Freising
Pope Benedict XVI studied in at the University of Theology in Freising and was ordained into the priesthood on June 29th, 1951. He eventually became archbishop of Munich and Freising.What to see in Freising
The most outstanding site is the St. Mary's Cathedral (Mariendom), consecrated in 1250. Book lovers will want to visit the ancient Dombibliothek (cathedral library). The largest museum of Christian art is found on Cathedral Hill as well.
In 1040 the Benedictine monks in the Weihenstephan monastery were granted the right to brew and serve beer. The monastery closed in 1803, but the brewery continued, calling itself the "oldest brewery n the world.
