Traunstein - Where Pope Benedict Grew Up

Traunstein is a pleasant regional center of 18,000 population. It features a fine medieval center and you'll find a youth hostel there.

Traunstein is located on the Munich to Salzburg train line.

Pope Benedict XVI's Traunstein

The pope entered St. Michael's Seminary in 1939 as a teenager. He has spent several winter holiday's in Traunstein since.
