Strasbourg Cathedral Picture: The View Half Way Up the Spire

James Martin
Strasbourg Cathedral was completed in 1439. Until the 19th century its spire was the tallest in Europe. You can climb up much of the 446 ft high spire to get to a viewing platform on top. The guides tell you there are 332 stairs to climb; we are happy to report that we counted only 328 in the narrow and winding confines of the spire.

Here is the view not even half way up, showing the spine of the Cathedral and its flying buttresses.
