A Selection of Rugs at Punto

Authentic Turkish rugs can be hard to find in Istanbul, simply because fakes, or low-quality rugs, are everywhere. However, at Punto rug shop, all rugs are authentic – and authentically priced.

Punto is a well-established business located near, but not in, the Grand Bazaar. This rug shop has been run by the same family for five generations, wholesales internationally, and deals in both new and antique rugs.

Shopping for Rugs at Punto

At Punto, finding an authentic Turkish, Persian, or Kilim rug to suit your tastes, budget, and décor requirements would be easy, except for the sheer variety of rugs available, stacked in piles along Punto’s walls. Customers will be shown rugs to their heart’s content; these rugs may be silk or wool, single- or double-knotted, new or antique, in muted tones or vibrant colors, as small as a door mat or as large as a dining room table. If you care to know, you’ll learn about the rugs’ origins, who made them, any distinguishing marks (like the signature of the artist), and other qualities that may help you make your decision.

Rug Making Tradition

Some days, you will be able to observe a rug maker from a village, who knots, thread by thread, beautiful carpets that are then sold at Punto. A small carpet can take the artisan two years or more to make. This is why authentic Turkish rugs are highly valued – the quality and craftsmanship is unparalleled.

It’s important to note that, while bargaining is still practiced at the Grand Bazaar, rugs at Punto are priced according to their value. A rug’s value is determined by the materials used and labor that went into making the rugs.
