Lecce Pictures: Baroque City in Puglia

By , About.com Guide

Lecce has often been called "the Florence of the South", a name that's quite misleading, it seems to me. The city of fewer than 100,000 people, Lecce is beautifully decked out in baroque style, due in part to the soft Lecce limestone that's easy to carve and glows when hit by the sun.

Lecce is quite a vision on a day when storms threaten and the sky turns dark. These are the conditions we faced when we last visited.
