Avetrana and the Festival of San Biagio, Martyr and Patron Saint of Avetrana

By , About.com Guide

Avetrana. Ever heard of it? We hadn't either. But, one day while out touring in Puglia, we got hopelessly lost in its tangle of streets. But we were lost next to a fine set of Castle ruins and the sun was setting so there would be fine pictures...

We parked the car. A festival was the reason the main street was blocked off. We went with the flow, and saw marching bands, a religious procession, and more.

So, when you get stuck, remember that a tiny bit of culture might be just around the corner. Don't plan every moment. Let life surprise you with its diversity.

Just in case you want to be in the middle of the religious procession and hear the sounds of the bells and marching bands, see the short Avetrana San Biagio Festival Video.

Enjoy our pictures of Avetrana and the festival of San Biagio.
