Distillerie Berta is located at Via Guasti 34/36 - Fraz. Casalotto, Mombaruzzo (Fraz. is a term for a small village administered by the larger town, in this case Mombaruzzo). Visitor information is found on Berta's website. You'll have to email them for a tour. Berta contacts

Berta is located where the Langhe and Monferrato meet. Lots of good Barbara comes from here.

Other Grappa Experiences

If you're into Grappa, Bassano della Grappa in the Veneto region might be a place you'll want to visit. See Grappa Delight for details.

Stay at a Distillerie? Distillerie Tenute Collesi has rooms in their place between the Marche and Umbria.

Wineries to visit in the Piemonte

I highly recommend a visit to Braida. The Barberas of Braida are big, structured wines--not the soft, fruity examples in current vogue with wine writers.

The woman in the picture below is Raffaella Bologna, daughter of the late Giacomo Bologna, one of the most innovative Barbera producers around Asti. She speaks English and can hold your attention for hours with fabulous stories of local characters. In fact, the wines, like Bricco dell'Uccellone, are often named for the locals, or at least their most notable characteristics.

For other recommended wineries, as well as some restaurant suggestions, see this SlowTalk thread
