The Torrazzo, or clock tower of Cremona, Italy, is a work of the 13th century. The Torrazzo is over 110 meters high, and you can climb the over 500 stairs to arrive at the top for great views over the city of Cremona, famous for its stringed instruments, especially those made by Antonio Stradivari, who set up his violin shop in Cremona in 1660.
Initially, the stairs run along the outer edge of the square tower, as in the picture. It's only near the top that they become the familiar narrow circular staircase type of stair that has brought fright to the hearts of tower climbers everywhere. All in all it wasn't a bad climb; the views of the tourist overlooked Cremona are worth the climb and the few Euros you'll pay to do it.
