Beaufort castle dates back to around 1150. It was enlarged in 1380, and a wing added in 1500. It's everything you might want in a castle, including a tar-nose above the entrance where guards could toss boiling oil on intruders. It also has a torture chamber, with some reconstructed instruments of torture (see the picture below for an example). The castle had a moat at one time, although today little of the moat remains.
Beaufort Castle is located in a region of Luxembourg called Mullerthal, the Little Switzerland. The castle is open 9-6 and is illuminated on Summer nights.
I hope they don't restore Beaufort Castle. The ruins, as you will see, are quite evocative the way they are.
