Vianden Castle is one of the most compelling castles in Luxembourg. Vianden is located in the northeast part of Luxembourg, in an area known as the Ardennes. A visit will be rewarded by rolling hills and a verdant landscape. Lots of camping sites, loaded with Europeans, can be found along the rivers, especially along the Our River, which borders Vianden.

Here is the view of Vianden Castle from the road leading into town.

Viaden Castle was constructed from the 11th to the 14th centuries on top of an old Roman fort. There are models showing details of the historic construction you'll see when you visit the castle.

The castle was in ruins until the family of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg transfered the castle to the State in 1977 and it was restored to its current condition.
