Pack a Nightlight When You Travel?

European Night Light (Purchased in Italy)

James Martin

When we travel, it's not often that we have the luxury of staying in five star hotels. Three star is more in our price range. But sometimes staying in a cheaper hotel can be challenging.

Our last hotel in Germany is one example. It was a fine hotel. Our room even had a small kitchen.

But to make sure the moisture didn't accumulate in the bathroom, every time you turned on the light the cheap, noisy fan came on and stayed on for about 15 minutes after you turned off the light. These fans were so noisy you could hear other room fans turn on as well. You don't need to hear that in the night, and neither does your partner.

The answer to all this is a small, florescent night light you can buy in just about any hardware type store in Europe. You can see ours in the upper right. The type of plug shown will work all over continental western Europe. I've not found a source of them in the U.S.

These days we always travel with one. Just remember to unplug it and take it with you when you leave.
