The Pfalz or Palatinate wine region makes up about 5% of the Palatinate, but is Germany's second largest producer of fine wine. What this means for the traveler is good food and wine, interesting villages, and a wealth of festivals to attend, especially around harvest time.
The pictures in this gallery were taken along the center of the German wine route or Weinstraße, between Neustadt and Landau, called "St. Martin and the central wine road" centering around the village of St. Martin. The route actually runs from Bockenheim in the north to Rechenbach in the south.
After spending just a few days in the Pfalz wine region, I deemed it my favorite part of Germany. Enjoy the pictures; click to see each picture full size.
