The man hanging from the wall here has spawned many myths. His flesh is mummified and he's relatively recent, compared to the 16th century bones he's displayed over.
By the way, it is estimated that there are over 5000 skeletons in the bone chapel.
Besides the copious use of bones as display elements in the walls, skulls are used as decorative elements in the ceiling as well.
